ELI offers a variety of webinars, recordings, and on-demand workshops to help you get started and succeed in your online courses. Using the computer or mobile device of your choice and a high-speed, reliable internet connection, you will be able to participate in the webinars, review the recordings, and take advantage of the on-demand workshops. A Web-cam or microphone is not required; text chat will be utilized during the webinars for participants to ask questions. All webinars, recordings, and workshops are free; however, registration is required.

How to Participate in a Webinar or Request a Recording

Webinars are delivered via Blackboard Collaborate. You can test your connection ability ahead of time by visiting Behind Blackboard: First Time Users -- Blackboard Collaborate. You can also view a tutorial on the ELIfe Student Blog.

After completing the registration form, you will receive an automatic email with more information about the session. If you do not receive an email, double check your email address and re-submit the request. For all the webinars listed in the Library Resources area, you will receive an email 24-48 hours prior to the start of your session with log-in information.

On-Demand Workshops and Recordings are provided by Student Lingo and ELI Staff.

If you need closed captions to access online materials, contact interpreters@nvcc.edu. Please give at least 5 business days' notice to schedule captions. We will try to honor your request with shorter notice but cannot make any guarantees. Captions may be viewed on PC laptops or desktops, tablets with Windows software (like Surface Pro), MAC laptops or desktops. Captions cannot be viewed on mobile devices.

Conducting a Job Search

This 45 minute webinar will focus on basic strategies for conducting a job search. Topics covered will include creating a plan, identifying sources of job leads, and resume, cover letter, and interview basics.

Crossing the Finish Line: NOVA Graduation Preparation Program

View this 17 minute video to obtain information on what you need to graduate from NOVA and plan for transfer or prepare for employment. You will learn how verify the remaining requirements of your program, apply for graduation and attend commencement, and financially prepare for your last semester at NOVA and your new institution.

ELI Orientation

The ELI Orientation is a general overview for students enrolled in courses offered through the Extended Learning Institute. This one hour webinar will focus on getting started in your courses, navigating your Blackboard course site, and identifying tips for success and student support services. The ELI Orientation is highly recommended for students who are new to online learning.

Reviewing Your Online Syllabus

The single most important instrument in an online course is your course syllabus. In this 30 minute webinar you will learn what a syllabus is, what significant information is listed in a syllabus, the importance of regular syllabus reviews, using your syllabus as a planning tool, goal setting, and using your syllabus as a communication tool with classmates and instructors.

SmarterMeasure Assessment
