Extended Learning Institute

2012 Webinar Schedule

A webinar is a web-based seminar.  Using the computer of your choice and an internet connection, you will be able to see the presentation and listen in using your computer speakers.  A microphone is not required as a text chat feature will be utilized during the webinars for participants to ask questions.  All webinars are free; however, registration is required. 

To register for a webinar, click on the title of a webinar listed below then click on the link with the date and time of interest and follow the instructions provided.  Upon registering successfully for a webinar, an online confirmation message should be received.  In addition to the confirmation message, individuals should receive a confirmation e-mail one week and/or one day prior to the webinar of interest that will include instructions for accessing the webinar.  Send an e-mail to elicounselors@nvcc.edu if you have questions about any of the webinars. If you encounter any problems with registering for or joining a webinar call 703.764.5051 for assistance. Additional webinars will be offered in the future.  Visit ELI’s website often for a current list of programs.

ELI Orientation

This one hour webinar for students enrolled in courses offered through the Extended Learning Institute (ELI) will focus on getting started in your courses, navigating in your Blackboard course site, and identifying tips for success, financial aid resources, and student support services.

Is Distance Learning for Me?

This 45 minute webinar for prospective students will focus on distance learning courses offered through the Extended Learning Institute of NOVA.  Topics covered include what is distance learning, technical requirements, characteristics of a successful distance learning student, courses offered, course length and formats, and the registration process.

This 45 minute webinar for NOVA students will focus on strategies for success in distance learning courses offered through ELI. Topics covered will include time management, learning preferences, study strategies, tutoring services, test anxiety, and exam preparation.

Exploring Career Options

This 45 minute webinar will focus on using various online resources to research career options.  The relationship between programs of study at NOVA, college majors, and career options will be discussed.  Resources presented will provide information on nature of work, educational requirements, job outlook, and wages.
