Admission
to Northerrn Virginia Community College |
You may apply
online to NVCC. Students who are new to Northern
Virginia Community College (NVCC) or who are returning after 3 years
of non-attendance must complete and submit an Application
for Admission. Students who have lived in Virginia for one consecutive
year or more and are claiming entitlement to in-state tuition rates
must also complete an Application
for Virginia In-State Tuition Rates.
Once your application is submitted and you receive your EMPLID, you
may then register using NovaConnect.

How
to Register for Distance Learning Courses |
You must be admitted to Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) before
you may register for distance learning courses. During the process,
please verify that the college has your correct mailing address
to ensure that you will receive your course enrollment confirmation.
You may register using one of the registration methods listed below.
NovaConnect
Online Registration:
You may register
online. Distance learning courses are identified by the word virtual
in the course description. Online registration
help is available. If you wish to pay by check, money order or agency
contract, mail the payment to the closest campus Business Office. To
pay by cash, you must pay at one of the campus Business Offices during
regular business hours.
NovaConnect
Telephone Registration:
You may register by telephone by calling (703) 323-3770 or (703) 330-3770
(Prince William County). Complete a Registration
and Tuition Worksheet prior to placing your call. You will need
the current class/index number to register by telephone. Class/index
numbers for distance learning courses are listed in either the campus
listing or the ELI distance learning section at the back of the printed
Schedule of Classes. You may encounter a busy signal or continuous
ringing due to heavy usage but keep trying your call.
If
you wish to pay by check, money order or agency contract, mail the payment
to the closest campus Business Office. To pay by cash, you must pay
at one of the campus Business Offices during regular business hours.
Important
Note: Please do not fax or mail registrations
or send tuition payments for distance learning courses to the Extended
Learning Institute .

Auditing
Distance Learning Courses |
The regular tuition rate is charged for auditing a course. A student
who audits a distance learning course does not have to complete class
assignments, but may do so and receive feedback. During the semester,
you have the time up to your Last Refund Date to switch from
audit to credit. You have the time up to your Last Withdrawal Date
to switch from credit to audit. If you choose to audit a distance
learning course, you will receive no credit for the
course and no grade will appear on your NVCC college transcript.
Requests
for auditing a course must be made in writing and can be faxed to the
ELI Distance Learning Registration at (703) 323-3392.

How
to Drop with Refund |
You may
drop a distance learning course for refund no later than the Last
Refund Date listed in the course information sent to you. There
are three ways to drop a course:

telephone using Telephone NovaConnect at (703) 323-3370 or (703)
330-3770 (Prince William County).

For
ELI distance learning courses ONLY, by mail or fax. Send a written
request to ELI Distance Learning Registration, Northern Virginia
Community College, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, Virginia
22003 or FAX (703) 323-3392. Be sure to include your name, student
ID number (NovaConnect EMPL ID) and the course and section you are
dropping.
NVCC must
receive your refund request no later than your Last Refund Date.
If you paid tuition by credit card and want your refund credited to
your credit card, you must use Web NovaConnect to make this request.
All other refunds will be issued by check and should be received within
a few weeks of the drop date.

How
to Withdraw from Distance Learning Courses |
You may withdraw from a distance learning course without grade penalty
by the Last Withdrawal Date listed in the course information
sent to you.
You
may withdraw or drop a distance learning course using Web NovaConnect,
Telephone NovaConnect, or for ELI distance learning courses, you may
send a written request to ELI Distance Learning Registration (see How
to Drop With Refund). If you withdraw from a course after your Last
Withdrawal Date, you will receive an "F" for a grade. If you are past
your Last Withdrawal Date but have mitigating circumstances
that prevent you from finishing the course, contact your instructor
in writing to request a withdrawal or "W" grade.
Important
Note: Students who do not send in their minimum
required assignments as specified by the instructor by the Last
Withdrawal Date will be administratively withdrawn from the course
with no refund.

Incomplete
Grades for ELI Distance Learning Courses ONLY |
If you are making progress in your ELI distance course
(i.e. defined as having satisfactorily completed approximately 50% of
all assignments and examinations, as specified by the instructor), but
your End of Enrollment date is near and extenuating circumstances
prevent you from completing all of the course assignments, you
may request a grade of incomplete and be granted an extension of time
to complete the course.
To request
a grade of incomplete, you must submit a request in writing
to your instructor requesting an incomplete grade and providing
the reasons you are unable to meet the End of Enrollment Date.
Students who receive an incomplete grade in an ELI distance course may
be given up to four months from their End of Enrollment Date
to finish all course work.
